How to juggle your personal – work life balance
Working for yourself is a wonderful experience, but it’s very easy to become overwhelmed with the requirements of running a business. When work starts to take up too much time, you neglect the needs of your personal life.
No doubt it’s tough to make time for yourself when there are deadlines to adhere to and projects to complete, but taking time for you is absolutely critical. Fail to do it, and you’ll burn-out before you know it. This is the reason I decided
Create work life balance by creating boundaries.
Commit to a specific work schedule for each day.
Maybe the best thing of being self-employed is the ability to make your own schedule. You don’t need to work from 8AM to 5PM; you can decide when you start and when you finish.
I start every day with 30 minutes of exercise and meditation followed by coffee, breakfast and some harmless distraction with my daughter. After the hour though, it’s time for work. I try to end each day at a fixed time, no matter how much there is to do, no matter how much there is to do.
When you’ve checked out for the day, make sure to actually check out. Resist the urge to check your email, make that phone call or do anything related to business at all unless there is something super important to attend.
Maybe take a day or two without powering up your computer. Sunday is my no computer day for example.
Diligently schedule leisure activities in the same way you schedule work ones.
Make the two hours between 7PM and 9PM family time. Play with your kids, read a book, cook dinner, watch a match… do what feels right.
Find your own way to keep work and life balanced. If you don’t, you’ll not only drive yourself crazy, but you’ll neglect the most important people in your life.
Over to you… Download below the spreadsheet and start your time slot exercise. Let me know how you go with it 🙂
